Tale of Two Sets....The Transformation

Designing a set for a perfectly framed shot, requires the same amount of skill and work that goes into a home. My design work continues to encompass both homes and film sets. This example shows a four wall set transformed into 2 different looks. The set requirements are drawn into floorplans, color schemes decided upon, materials chosen, and furnishings sourced or built. The brief for these sets was starting with an aging mansion with traditonal luxe furnishings, transformed into a 1970's home during Christmas.

Urban Design Solutions

My design convictions are heavily attached to how we live as a community. Building and design should consider the lifestyles of people. How we build a community affects our lives. This video shows solutions being discussed and implemented, that consider improvements to all demographics of a population including working class renters and public housing. Design is important in bringing everyone together and creating an environment that all walks of life can live in.

Colorful Beginnings

People often ask me where does the design begin? For me, I love my visuals. In the concept pictured, I started with 4 nature photos representing colors and textures I wanted to use in this design. Along with that, I will pull reference photos of similar elements in other home designs so a client can visualize the direction and the possibilities of what we can achieve for their home.
With each stage of the design process, I use visuals to demonstrate the concept coming together. This photo is an example of combining the floorplan drawing with samples of the design materials selected as it pertains to the particular areas of the house. My goal is to excite you about the design until the final reveal.
This particular floor is the top level of the house that has been reconfigured to fit a new master with ensuite, and 2 children's bedrooms with a shared bathroom.

Simple, Style, Comfort

I was drawn to post this more for the look into the process and the background style you view of this particular designer. Jaime Hayon is an important modern, interior and furniture designer working today. His vision is eclectic and colorful, and the works he produces draw you in like a work of art.

Knot for Not....

I think it is important when we make an investment in a designer piece of furniture that there is an understanding of what you are paying for. Often these are handcrafted, practical art forms that will live on for generations and not meant for landfill. Here is a glimpse at the making of a Marcel Wanders piece, the knotted chair.

Cozy, Comfy, Cool

There has never been a better argument for the warm addition of Window Coverings like there is now through this cold, deep freeze winter in the east.
Recent experience showed me how much more heat is kept in the home when the drapes are drawn. Many people don't realize the practicality of keeping out light when wanting to sleep, cutting down sound and echo, and of course keeping in the heat. Most importantly to me, drapes and blinds are a great way to add texture, color, and even adds a layer of "art" to a room. Here a re a few modern examples showing the great fabrics available to work with from linens and wools, to colorful printed synthetics. Send me a message if you want to know more about your options. Enjoy!
